The Power Behind Tayside 4×4’s New Mobile Unit.
Founded in 2010 and formally established in 2011, Tayside 4×4 is a volunteer-driven charity dedicated to providing crucial support to the community during times of crisis. Their dedicated team utilizes their own 4×4 vehicles to collaborate with emergency response agencies, including the Police, Firefighters, Council, SSEN, and NHS, making a positive impact in various events and disaster relief efforts.
As the organization has grown, expanding from a modest ten volunteers to over thirty-six committed individuals, they have continuously evolved their resources to enhance the level of assistance they can offer. Their recent addition of a mobile unit, equipped with computers, internet access, power outlets, refreshment facilities, and comfortable seating, has revolutionized their ability to deliver aid on the move. This innovative unit is entirely powered by the cutting-edge Stihl PS3000 Battery Generator.
Prior to acquiring this mobile unit and generator, Tayside 4×4 relied on their tent and laptops to provide shelter, access vital information and maintain communication at events. However, this was powered using a petrol generator, which caused disruptive noise, produced emissions and was incompatible with delicate electronics, posing a challenge during events spanning multiple days.
Jim Beattie, a dedicated volunteer, took a proactive approach to finding the ideal solution for Tayside 4×4’s power needs. His thorough research and consideration of performance, value, and versatility led him to choose the Stihl PS3000 from his local provider, Gammies Groundcare, which ensured reliable after-sales support throughout the product’s lifespan.
The Stihl PS3000 boasts a dependable, clean and space-efficient power solution. In the new mobile unit, the battery generator is suitable for prolonged usage with low power draw, ensuring sustained power supply over extended periods and can help power share to other support services.
With no emissions and low-noise operation, this generator can be safely operated inside the unit, providing power to delicate electronics such as laptops, monitors and charging ports. Its compact design allowed for easy integration into a small shelf within the unit for simple storage but also quick accessibility if the team required a lightweight, portable high-power source.
Jim Beattie expressed, “This battery has allowed us to be more flexible with the support we provide, ensuring clean, reliable power for the events we attend, which are often across multiple days and in remote locations.”
The addition of the Stihl PS3000 has become indispensable in Tayside 4×4’s endeavours, providing invaluable support to their dedicated volunteers no matter where they are. While the battery powers the unit, the driving force behind the charity remains the tireless commitment and contributions of the volunteers at Tayside 4×4.
